Behind the alias sombr is the young New York-based songwriter and producer Shane Michael Boose. sombr began making music in his bedroom during the pandemic, quickly learning to produce on his own while the world outside stood still. With a background in classical music and influences from late nights filled with teenage love and skateboarding through city streets, he has since created a unique sound – emotional, melodic, and deeply personal.
Since his breakthrough with “Caroline” (which he wrote, produced, and released himself at age 16), sombr has become a name on everyone’s lips. The song has now amassed over 50 million streams on Spotify, and his newer singles “would’ve been you,” “do I ever cross your mind,” and especially “back to friends” have cemented his place as a voice for a new generation of indie fans.
