When NME reviewed Wolf Alice's second album Visions of a Life, they posed the question: “Best band in Britain?” and then answered emphatically: “100%.” And NME is far from alone in considering Wolf Alice one of the most important bands in contemporary alternative rock. With their at times fragile, at times aggressive hybrid of grunge, shoegaze, and folk, the quartet stands far apart from streamlined, swaggering rock—and instead manages to be both artistically hyper-relevant and immensely popular. A combination that’s all too rare. That the band also has such a sharp storyteller in the undeniably expressive lead singer Ellie Roswell certainly doesn’t hurt.
After winning the Mercury Prize with Visions of a Life, expectations were sky-high for the 2021 follow-up Blue Weekend. Those fears turned out to be unfounded. Blue Weekend received top ratings in numerous prestigious publications, and the word “masterpiece” was heard more than once. Now the band has confirmed several major shows, including Glastonbury, and announced that their new album The Clearing will be released on August 29. On November 5, with the upcoming album in tow, rock’s new torchbearers Wolf Alice will perform at Annexet in Stockholm. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 23 at 10:00 AM!
